Optum, Accenture Off to Strong Starts

Optum Global Solutions and Accenture kickstarted their campaigns with blazing victories in the 2018 BPO Classics last May 20 at the Phenom Sports Center.

Accenture recovered from a slow start and breezed to an 83-63 victory over SYKES Asia in the opening game of the Competitive Division of the tournament organized by ONE Unite Sports Inc.

From a 13-20 first quarter, Accenture got its bearings together and zoomed away by outscoring SYKES Asia 70-43 for the next three, leading by as much as 23 points.

Franz Buenaventura provided the spark off the bench with a team-high 20 points along with six rebounds. Janoy Dela Fuente added 15 points while Gregorio Cortes had 11.

SYKES Asia got the majority of contributions from its starters with John Mallari and Michael Mostrales coming up with 17 points each.

In the second game, Optum Global Solutions fended off Shell Business Operations, 87-78.

Thanks to its solid 48-25 first half, Optum Global Solutions had enough in the tank to survive the last-ditch rally from SBO, which went on a 31-24 run in the payoff period.

Rey Santos scattered 22 points for Optum Global Solutions, while Dwight Manuel and Roberto Valdes Jr. combined for 30 points in their opening game win.

In the Recreational Division, QBE sent Allegis to a 0-2 record while SYKES Asia continued its perfect start after separate wins also over the weekend.

SYKES Asia bagged its third straight win in as many matches, this time dominating Accenture, 75-54.

From a 21-4 opening roll, SYKES Asia never slowed down with Michael Pingol leading the attack with 24 points, three rebounds and four assists.

Cydrick Marcelino chipped in 13 points, Nino Fajardo added 12 markers while Noel Rivera collared a team-best 14 boards for SYKES Asia.

QBE, meanwhile, clobbered Allegis, 60-48, for their first win the Recreational Divisiion.

Leaning on a balanced attack from the team, QBE easily established its foothold against the struggling Allegis.

Noel Sabordo topscored for QBE with 16 points and six rebounds while John Paul Reyes chimed in with 11 markers even as nine other players scored at least a point.
